Apple announced that the number of songs legally downloaded via its iTunes music store reached the 1 billion mark since April 2003, when the music service was launched. The 1 billionth song, Speed of Sound by Coldplay, was purchased by Alex Ostrovsky. Ostrovsky won a hefty prize, including an iMac and 10 video iPods. iTunes reached the 500-million song milestones on July 17, 2005.
